A year ago I had to choose a major in my college application and as I scrolled through the list, I wasn’t sure about any of the choices until I came across the option that read undecided. Surprisingly enough that one seemed the most appropriate, at the time. Like majority of the freshman, I came into college with an undecided major as well. Four months into college, I feel I am still unready to commit to a particular course. This pressure that looms on ever college students mind is my topic for this project. I decided to take the topic about ‘Why college students struggle to decide on a major’ for my second autoethnography. I plan to use primary and secondary sources for my research. For this project, I want to research on the various reasons why many students choose to be undecided about their major when they come into college. Also, I would like to research about how many students come into college with a definite career path a chose a major to suite the same.

On completion of this project I am not only hoping to answer the question- Is it ok to come to college with an undecided major ?- but also hope to get an insight into the difference in the profile, personality traits and characteristics of students who have come in with a decided major, to those students who have come in undecided. Another aspect I plan to research on is how the societal and parental pressure determines a lot on the choice of the major chosen by the students. By the end of this project I hope to find solutions to how students should tackle the stress and anxiety during the process of deciding his or her major.
